In this day and age of DJs and Karaoke, the solo singer/pianist entertainer is a vanishing breed. However, the artistry of the live solo acoustic performer is still appreciated around the world, and this keeps singer/pianist Didi Mudigdo on a hectic performance schedule all year round, performing solo or with his trio Didi Three, which has recorded three CDs to date.
Hailing from Sydney Australia, Didi is a popular singer and entertainer who in 2005 was the most-downloaded independent jazz vocals artist on mp3.com.au. He graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1997 with a jazz major, and has since toured extensively throughout Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia, performing at many festivals and jazz clubs. As well as performing, Didi has composed and recorded with Australian contemporary electronica groups TJ Eckleberg and TUFA, and was a Top 10 finalist in the 2005 Australian National Songwriting Contest (jazz category), together with co-composer Debra Blaquiere.
Didi’s vocals are inspired by Chet Baker and Blossom Dearie, jazz singers who like himself, are as accomplished on voice as they are on their instruments. On piano, he is influenced by jazz pianists from the 1950’s, the likes of Red Garland, Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly.
