Never thought I am going to be wasting my time giving negative reviews....but here I am.... Avoid at all costs.... Menu that you see on the website is not the actual menu, only a fraction of it is offered in the restaurant. The staff was pretty much confused what the have, what they don't....But we still decided to stay, and opted for some very unimpressing pizzas and bruchettas. well the whole meal lasted two hours, as with 12 guests in the restaurant, the kitchen seamed to be overworked:) One dish at a time, with 15 min intervals...And, surprise, our starters arrived last.....
My family went to Celebrities Palace for a celebration, and it was a really elegant, romantic French restaurant, it was mostly couples there but thankfully they had tables large enough to seat our large party as well. We had the mushroom soup, pan-fried liver pate, grilled steak, and dessert platter. The mushroom soup was really silky and smooth, and had black truffles on top as garnish, which was a great way to start the meal. The liver pate was the best I've had, it had lovely char marks but wasn't over fried, portion size was nice too. The berry sauce with it was a nice touch and prevented the dish from feeling too rich. The steak was SO GOOD. Usually in Guangzhou I don't eat steaks less than medium well since otherwise it just spells bathroom disaster, but Celebrities imports all their beef from Australia i think, so I was finally able to have a nice, juicy, rare steak! The steak was just all beefy goodness, and it's perfect with just the simple pepper seasoning, unlike other places that cover up their subpar steaks with sauces. Lastly we had the dessert platter and tea, I really liked the blueberry cheesecake and tiramisu. Service was fine, the waiters came over to fill our glasses before they were even close to empty and were otherwise friendly and unobtrusive, allowing us to focus on the meal. Overall, I really liked this restaurant and will definitely go back. It's definitely different from most of the 'Western" restaurants out there, in that the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed (I can actually hear what my tablemates are saying without them yelling!) and the food is really authentic and high quality. To be fair it may not be for everyone though, none of the food has been "chinese-fied" but IMO that's what makes Celebrities stand out as one of the better choices in french cuisine in Guangzhou.
in summary: Food: 5 stars (definitely try the liver pate and grilled steak!!) Service: 5 stars Price: 4 stars (it's not the cheapest restaurant out there, but you get what you pay for) Atmosphere: 5 stars
i use to go to western restaurant in zhujiang new town, this time i noticed this chinese restaurant and really wanted to try it,because in GZ hard to find a local restaurant, clean and welcoming. actually it was a nice experience with the hot spicy food, it was soo tasty that it was hard to stop eating while your month is simply burning. i never had pleasure with see food in china before!
A waitress who took six drinks order and didnt write anything down in a room that has a band playing and not only remembers the drinks order but gets them quickly and puts ice in the beer glasses because the bud is not that cold is a great change from the slapdash service one normally receives in Guangzhou. Great music and atmosphere with something different and varied most nights. Food unpretentious, simple & authentic at decent prices. Owner friendly, circulating & warm. Nice one Hooleys
