Shanghai Baconfest is a meat-lover’s get together like no other. Back for its second year, Shanghai Baconfest will be held this Saturday at Cages, where top chefs and selected amateurs will compete, entering their best bacon dishes for fame, glory, and the love of cured pork.
There will be more than 15 teams participating, and all attendees are welcome to sample one bacon treat from each of the teams. That’s one hell of an artery clogging event. Tickets are RMB150 pre-sale, RMB200 at the door, and it includes one Budweiser beer.
Participants include teams representing Bordertown, Lil’ Laundry, Motorsmoker (those guys with killer beef jerky from Zhujiajiao), Kakadu (who did a bacon-wrapped alligator at last year’s Baconfest), Hotbox, Max's Cookies, Golden Gloves, The Rooster, Porky's and more. There will be a vote from judges to see who has the best bacon, as well as a people’s choice.
Providing entertainment will be solo performer Mark W, followed by Shanghai’s weirdest, loudest punk band Round Eye. And you can take the opportunity to stock up on crispy American-style bacon from Matty Gras, jerky from Motorsmoker, bacon cookies from Max's Cookies, and a number of other greasy treats from Bon Pain.
