Here are two new gyms to put on your radar—MOVEM and F45. MOVEM gets your heart pumping through a combination of cycle and rave, whilst hard-core HIIT lovers will appreciate a serious sweat session at F45. Both gyms are currently offering promotions—F45 is offering a two-week free trial.

MOVEM is a boutique-spinning studio promoting a lifestyle concept that incorporates indoor cycling with a health and fitness community.
The minimalist space is located in the CREATER’s office complex and provides a serene setting for urbanites to convene—downstairs serves as comfortable chill-out space with tables, chairs and a bar. Pre- or post-workout, members can energize themselves with cold lemon water or grab vegetarian nibbles and smoothies from #TGIF (Thank God It's Fresh)—the latest venture from the founder of Sweetist, an ice cream pop-up this past summer. Upstairs is where the magic happens—a dimly lit room houses over 40 professional bikes with clipped pedals. Don't worry though, special cycling shoes are provided free of charge.
Perhaps the best part of the experience is the florentine K-array sound unit and lighting system—ear-shattering beats and intense strobe and disco lighting. The workouts are led by trained instructors and each class runs just under an hour. It begins with a warm up and the intensity gradually builds up to pedal to the 220bpm time of disco house beats.
It's a very niche scene that we'd usually recommend purely to those into cycling, but with no binding yearly commitments and the ability to "Pay-As-You-Play", we think it's worth checking out. Drop-ins are RMB220 per class and ten classes will cost RMB1,750. If you're not ready to commit, sign up for a free class—the first one is on the house. They currently have an opening promotion, offering two weeks of unlimited classes for RMB800.

F45 Training an Australian franchise that combines elements of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Circuit Training, and Functional Training. This combination of interval, cardiovascular and strength training has been proven to be the most effective workout method for burning fat and building lean muscle. It's a high intensity circuit workout that's fun, effective and efficient all within a tidy 45 minutes.
The studio is simple with plenty of open space for equipment and stations for functional training. What we love about F45 is that every workout is different. Three programs are offered throughout the week Athletica (cardio), Romans (resistance) and Hollywood (resistance, cardio and core).
F45 is running a new opening promo, offering a two-week unlimited free trial until the end of August, applicable for all classes. To redeem, follow their WeChat official account F45shanghai and navigate the booking system.
