This Saturday, 25 of Shanghai's top bartenders will be squaring off at The Waterhouse to battle for the title of "Best Gin & Tonic in Shanghai". An impressive roster of barkeeps, like Roger Yamagishi from Sober Company, Highline’s Timothée Becqueriaux, Yifu Jiang of Xixi Bistro, Dante He from Barules, and several others will be putting their own spin on this simple, classic cocktail.
It's part of Gin Jubilee, a three-day celebration of the spirit sponsored by Singapore-based East Imperial tonic water. It's a series of invite-only cocktail bar crawls, and master classes geared toward industry insiders, and it culminates in this day-long gin fair on Saturday, November 25.
Admission to the party is free, and you'll have the opportunity to taste what the competitors mix with with coupons. They'll be available for RMB50 each or RMB140 for three. In addition to the bartender competition, an award for “Best Ginstagram” will also be given out. This contest honors the most creative Instagram post regarding the festival, with the winner receiving a free trip to Singapore for the Gin Jubilee grand finale. Also look out for DJ collective Mustard Music, as well as Japan’s own DJ Raimu and DJ Jun spinning hip-hop, funk, jazz, disco, and more. Bites and nibbles will be provided by Shanghai restaurants Xixi Bistro, El Luchador, Fly by Jing, and La Maison Noodle Bar.
