New York-based band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is coming to Shanghai, playing at Bandai Namco on January 26. They're the indie-pop rock band you never knew you needed in your musical rotation until now.
Formed in 2007 the four piece outfit originally gained a following with the release of their self-titled debut which featured songs detailing the struggles and complexities of youth and the growing pains of well, growing up. Receiving generally positive reviews the album took the number 19 spot on Pitchfork’s Top 50 albums of 2009 list.
Since then three more albums have followed, 2011’s Belong, 2014’s Consequence of Sound, and their latest, 2017’s The Echo of Pleasure. A departure from previous releases, this most recent work is a bit different in not only scope and material, but in the fact that it’s essentially a solo project of lead singer-songwriter Kip Berman, sans former band members.
Nonetheless, the band has retained the retro 1980’s synth-pop sound and heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics, albeit a bit more grown up these days. Lead single “When I Dance with You” is a catchy and upbeat ditty that surely beckons listeners to their feet. In support of this album, Berman along with a new supporting band are hitting the road with three stops throughout China. Get your tickets from New Noise's Tabao Site.
