Hey Shanghai: this new live storytelling series called Unravel wants you to get onstage and share your stories. Send your most heartbreaking, funny, informative or touching personal stories to be considered for their inaugural event on February 23.
Clara Davis of District is spearheading the idea as a side project, saying she was inspired partly by live storytelling series like The Moth but noticing a severe lack of these same outlets here.
"Shanghai seems ripe for a treasure trove of good tales," she says. "And storytelling in general feels really cool to me—as an art form, outlet, social activity and just a reminder that we've all got our own stories to tell and reasons for wanting to share them." Right on.
Here are the key things you need to know to participate:
1. Stories must be true stories from your own life.
2. Stories must be kept to about 3-10 minutes long.
3. Stories need to tie in, however loosely, to the given theme. The first event in February has the theme "Impression," which Unravel outlines as follows: "A first, a second, a last. On you, of you. An imprint. Lasting or fleeting. The way it all started or what you see looking back."
The first event will take place at District on Yuyuan Lu. People must submit their stories in advance by sending a brief pitch to firstname.lastname@example.org
