As summer winds down, more festival news rolls in. New festival on the block Ultra, has announced the bulk of their line for their China edition. Headliners include: Carl Cox, The Chainsmokers, Curtis, MOTi, Nic Fanciulli and Sasha & John Digweed. MIDI festival, one of China’s longest running music festival, will also be back in Taihu lake this October. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t turn into one big mud fest like last year.
This September will also see the first edition of the Shanghai Queer Film Festival. This ten day event will be free of charge and will include a bevy of workshops, film screenings, parties and discussions focused on the queer Asian experience. On September 23, queer rave party Medusa will celebrate their 1st anniversary at Elevator. Famed Japanese electronic musician De De Mouse will perform at Mao Livehouse on September 21.
Later in September, Californian pop rockers Against the Current will be performing at Bandai Namco Shanghai Base Dream Hall. American rapper Travis Scott will also be embarking on an Asia tour stopping in Tokyo, Taiwan, Shenzhen and Shanghai on November 11 at Bandai Namco Shanghai Base Dream Hall as well. On September 2 contemporary dance company Beijing Dance Theater will perform their newest work “Haze,” a meditation on crisis at Shanghai Culture Square. Straight from St. Petersburg Russia, Anna Karenina will be performed as a ballet on the stage of Shanghai Oriental Art Center on September 9.
