Leading the pack in international bookings is Arkham, who will be bringing in New York rapper Joey Bada$$ sometime during the month of January. The independent rapper is known for catchy songs that detail his struggles before fame, as well as the current political climate in the US.
Party promoter SHFT will soon be celebrating five years with a big anniversary bash. For now, they are keeping mum on exactly who will be headlining the festivities but they’ve hinted at someone huge in the electro-hip-hop scene. On the acoustic music front it’s been rumored that British singer-songwriter Rhodes will be headed our way. Known for his pure lyrics and melodic guitar work, he’ll likely perform somewhere intimate like Yuyintang or another, local live house. Also possibly in the pipeline is American singer Julie Byrne. A relatively new voice in the contemporary folk arena, her second album, Not Even Happiness, is a collection of songs exploring nature and matters of the heart.
Daliah, that restaurant with the swings and slide, is moving in a new direction with a series of evening programs focused on “empowering women, queer people, and community building.” So look out for a new ladies themed night Wednesday as well as a Sunday community event. Shade, an LGBT party night out of Seoul, South Korea might be coming to Shanghai and Beijing in the next few months.
