Charity spin classes, Dali dinner parties, green design fairs and more to do this weekend


This weekend goes green with Eco Design Fair and Climate Change Theatre Action Festival while Dada and Elevator have special guest DJs and Café de Stagiaires celebrates a milestone.

How Much: Free Entry

Now in its ninth year, the annual Eco Design Fair 2017 aims to inspire and empower consumers, communities and businesses to adopt a plant-based lifestyle. This year’s event will showcase the wide variety of plant-based options available and inspire visitors about healthy, eco-lifestyle and animal protection options in order to create a better world for generations to come. Visitors will find earth-friendly alternatives in the marketplace and farmer's market. From vegan foods to cruelty-free products to interactive activities and fun performances, you will discover the benefits of plants for your body, mind and the planet. You can also sign up for their eco workshops if you want to bring home your DIY creations. Decrease your carbon usage by paying a visit to their "Swap, Repair, Refill, Reuse, and Recycle" area to learn how to repurpose and renew your items rather than throwing them into the landfill. Head to the main stage as well, where you can catch various live performances, fitness classes and demonstrations.

Every month MIIIA hosts a  party dedicated to acid bass line illusions, losing control, and the techno that takes you there. This month they will welcome Belgian phenomenon Charlotte de Witte. She regularly scorches through a myriad of uncompromising, aggressive techno sets across Europe every single weekend. Pre-sale tickets are RMB60 and RMB100 at the door.


QV's Grand Opening

Where: QV Wine Bar, 343 Jiaozhou Lu (near Wuding Lu) 胶州路343号 (近武定路)

When: Fri, 10pm-late

New Jing'an wine bar QV is celebrating their grand opening, offering up RMB25 glasses of Prosecco and wines by the glass from 6pm to late. 



Alimentari's Grand Opening

Where: Alimentari, 158 Anfu Lu (near Wulumuqi Zhong Lu) 安福路158号 (近乌鲁木齐中路)

When: Sat, 4pm-late

Specialty grocer Alimentari is celebrating their grand opening, offering half-priced bottled drinks and free finger foods from 4pm to late, this Saturday. If you haven't been yet, it's fabulous. Sip on wine on their terrace, while the weather's still nice.

‘Without Why’ with Quentin Derouet and Wan Qiong

Where: ArtCN, No.423 Guangfu Lu (near Datong Lu)上海市光复路423号 (近大统路) 

When: Nov 11-Dec 17, 5pm-8pm 

How Much: TBA 

ArtCN will be presenting “Without Why”, an exhibition featuring the French artist Quentin Derouet for the first time in Shanghai and the Shanghai-born Wan Qiong with her ceramic installation. The exhibition will present the two artist’s pieces that derive from the essence of nature, a rose in Derouet’s case and bamboo in Qiong’s case. Climate Change Theatre Action Festival

Where: Theatre in The Tianzifang, Tianzifang, No. 311, Bldg. 3, 200 Taikang Lu (near Ruijin Er Lu) 田子坊泰康路200弄3号楼311号 (近瑞金二路) 

When: Sat-Sun 7:30pm-10pm 

How Much: RMB150

In an effort to engage with the reality of climate change and bring awareness and discussion to different communities, more than 200 groups from over 40 countries have banded together to take action. Shanghai’s contribution is Climate Change Theatre Action Festival, a series of experimental short plays and performances.

DJ Die at Dada

DJ Die, the Bristol-based artist is a pioneer of electronic music. He has released music on seminal UK labels like XL Recordings, Talkin' Loud, Full Cycle and now heads up the GutterFunk label. He has continued to be an innovator, ignoring rules and tradition in favor of creating a new alchemy via his expansive range of influences and unfaltering vision of the future.



Shanghai's Best Weekend Events Spinback 12 hour Charity Spinathon

Spinback 12 Hour Charity Spinathon

Where: Shanghai Centre, 1376 Nanjing Xi Lu (near Tongren Lu) 南京西路1376号 (近铜仁路) 

When: Sat 8am-8pm

How Much:  RMB200 per hour

Spinback is taking over the Shanghai Centre for a 12-hour Charity Spinathon in support of two charities - Heart2Heart Shanghai and Shanghai Animal Rescue. Bikes are RMB200 (non-refundable) per hour, with all proceeds going to the above causes. There will also be raffles, giveaways and goodie bags on the day. Classes (40-min duration) will be held every hour on the hour, starting at 8am. The last class will start at 7pm. Send then an email to secure your bike.

Café des Stagiaires is celebrating their six-year anniversary with a big bash, calling everyone to their Found 158 location for a huge party. It all kicks off at 5pm, and there will be live music entertainment from: Redic, DJs Skinny Brown, Hoel, Clemie Jolie, Jibe, Soic, and Leon C. Hold onto your liver, this will be a messy one.

Shanghai Supperclub's Four-Year Anniversary

Where: Secret Location

Shanghai Supperclub is turning four, and they're partnering up with POP SECRET, a culinary collective from El Willy Group and chef Pol Garcia, to present an evening of Salvador Dali-inspired 1920s Shanghai food. The event will bring art, music, and live performance together for an immersive dinner. Venue to be disclosed closer to the date. Tickets are RMB550 per person, includes food and drinks. Come to Central Studios for the screening event of the seventh annual Shanghai 48 Hour Film Project. More than 20 teams spent the previous weekend making a short film. From screenwriting to location scouting and casting to filming and finally editing together creating a short film, they completed their production over a wild caffeine-infused weekend.
