Shanghai's Best Weekend Events

Homeshake | Nur Jaber | Huit Etoiles

It's getting cold, but Shanghai's nightlife scene burns hotter than ever. This weekend, head on over to Elevator for a night of techno with DJ Nur Jaber, or indulge in a dash of indie pop with Homeshake at Yuyintang. If you're looking to inject a touch of class, QV Wine Bar is hosting a Champagne dinner on Friday.

Bar Rouge breaks out the all the red in anticipation of Chinese New Year. Expect the space to be decked out in paper lanterns, couplets, and all things Spring Festival. They'll be dishing out cocktails infused with Chinese ingredients too. Starts this Friday and will run until the end of February.

 

Champagne Dinner at QV

QV Wine Bar hosts a Champagne dinner with a food menu crafted by Italian Chef Giovanni Papi. Expect dishes like marinated and grilled octopus, scallop pan-fried with butter, and duck breast gracing your dinner table. Each course is paired with a Drappier. RMB388/pax, reservations required.

 

Homeshake at Yuyintang

Homeshake is the solo musical project of Montreal-based singer-songwriter and musician Peter Sagar, who is best known as the former guitarist for Mac DeMarco's live band. His third album under the project "Fresh Air" was released in 2017. Homeshake's music features an indie pop sound, influenced by F&B and smooth soul, with a lo-fi, home-recorded aesthetic.

The multi-talented producer and DJ Nur Jaber's varied musical roots saw her finding her way into the house and techno clubs of Berlin since her arrival in 2010. Hailing from the beautiful yet sometimes troubled Beirut in Lebanon, cultural experiences have no doubt inspired and enriched her music. Tickets are RMB50 in advance, RMB80 at the door.

 

Emil Chang's 30 Years of Music at Celia

Celebrate 30 years of rocking the dance floor with DJ Emil Chang at Celia. The evening kicks off with 25 DJs and three VJs doing their thing, includes names like Jasmine Li, Chewie, Terrence C and Lina K. RMB100 buys you entrance and a drink.

 

Colin Phils at Yuyintang

Colin Phils is a Richmond, Virginia-based band offering complex instrumental music alongside vocals filled with harmonies. Their sound has been described as part math-rock, part post-rock, with catchy hooks and harmonies throughout. So, like, Phil Collins? Support from local band Foster Parents.

 

Huit Etoiles: Tokyo Disco Crew at Dada

Fusing Japanese and European folk music with disco, Hui Etoiles has created a unique electronic sound which has spread across the globe. In 2014, Huit Etoiles debuted internationally as the first Japanese crew to play "Open to Last" at Milan's 65MQ, followed by shows in Berlin and Istanbul. Since then, his popularity has exploded with multiple tours across Asia, Europe and the States.

 

Pearse Irish Whiskey Launch at Logan's Punch

Pop by Logan's Punch to celebrate the launch of the Pearse Irish Whiskey Collection. Guest Irish bartender Connor Ryan will be crafting special whiskey cocktails all evening, to go with some whiskey tasting and choice nibbles.
