Unlike many DJs that started their career during the same era, DJ Jazzy Jeff has managed to carve a successful career out of doing what he does best: curating diverse musical mixes that get people up and moving on their feet. After first bursting on the scene as part of the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, they pumped out hits like “Parents Just Don’t Understand", and made history in 1989 by snagging the first ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. The summer of 1991 saw the duo’s biggest hit before disbanding, “Summertime”, a laid back jam about the fun days of the hottest season of the year.
Since those early days, Philadelphia native DJ Jazzy has worked steadily, not only as a touring DJ but also collaborating with artists such as Jill Scott, Dr. Dre, The Roots, Talib Kweli, and more. On the solo tip, he’s released over a dozen mix tapes and records beginning with 2002’s The Magnificent. On Saturday November 18, the O.G. of mixing and scratching will take over the turntables at posh nightclub spot Le Baron for an epic evening of music that true hip-hop fans won’t want to miss out on.
