Located three hours from Shanghai in Monganshan, naked Stables Private Reserve is China’s first sustainable luxury wellness resort and equestrian reserve. It sits on 60 acres inside its very own private valley. The grounds provide a relaxing break from your usually busy city life and offer a unique, local experience.

The designer behind the resort is Shanghai’s Delphine Yip of Benwood Studio Shanghai. who was also responsible for the master plan of Xintiandi. The concept for the retreat was to create a completely natural resort with minimal impact on the surrounding environment.

Although the grounds sound like they’re solely for hippies looking to escape, the resort is comprised of 121 free-standing guest rooms (RMB2,500 per night), earth huts and 30 tree-top suites. The facilities are equipped for corporate retreats and weekend getaways for groups of all sizes, with a 750 sq. meter wellness and spa center with eight treatment rooms on stilts, a 800 sq. meter conference room as well as a clubhouse and children’s play room and daycare center. Guests will be further spoiled by the on-site equestrian center, surrounding bamboo and tea plantations and Afro-Asian fusion dining options, as well as a pool-side bar.

Back to the equestrians, naked Stables includes 20 horses that are available for guests to take a canter through the equestrian field or up into the mountains via trails designed for horseback riding. There’s also plenty of mountain biking and hiking through the area, as well as three pools, two of which are heated in the winter.

While its idyllic setting makes it a perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts, naked Stables Private Reserve also offers activities for those who prefer to stay indoors, with a tea pavilion, bamboo museum and pottery studio where guests can take a turn at throwing pots.
