Moganshan is just blowing up these days. This summer alone has seen the opening of two very high class new resorts. First it was naked Stables by the same people who gave the world naked Retreats. But the chatter in Moganshan these days is all about Le Passage Moganshan.
[For a family adventure in Moganshan, check here.]
This is a new 60-room boutique hotel where rooms are running something like RMB1,900 a night. That easily makes it the most expensive place to stay on the mountain. But maybe it's worth it. Everyone who has seen the venue raves about it. Apparently the French gentleman who owns/runs it imported pretty much everything and spent the better part of half a decade getting it open. He also flew in a French chef and your RMB1,900 apparently covers three square meals cooked by his deft hand.
The resort has its own tea plantation as well as a swimming pool. The owner dug his own underground reservoir to make that one happen. No reports on the service quality there yet--that's always a sticky issue.
For break-the-bank high-end stays in the Hangzhou region now you're looking at Amanfuyun, naked Home Village, and Banyan Tree.
If you're looking for something rather more--ahem--modest in Moganshan, there's the very cool Prodigy Outdoor Base and Moganshan House 23 which is run by the same people behind The Moganshan Lodge.
