A new photo show, discounted hotel stays and tees, a hoppy dinner, the JZ Big Band returns and a battle between Sharks and Tigers at the Yuanshen Stadium. We've rounded up six things for you to sink your teeth into over this long weekend.
Exhibition Opening | DRINK & SEE
In this progressive display of black-and-white photographs, award-winning photographer Huang Xiaoliang has juxtaposed nature and the post-industrial. Some of the subjects and shadows are real, he says, while others are computer-generated. The purpose here is to innovate and not merely take a scene or subject at face value. Hit the opening reception Saturday January 14th from 4-6pm for some drinks and the chance to meet and chat with Huang.
Discounted Rooms | STAY & PAMPER
JIA Shanghai has finally reopened after the unfortunate fire that broke out at the boutique hotel. The hotel took some time to touch itself up. To celebrate the reopening, they are putting on some amazing deals --only RMB1,000 a night to stay before the end of February.
Discounted Tees | SHOP & SAVE
Heading home during the Chinese New Year and need a couple of cool gifts? Jump online and check out the Plastered website and take advantage of the January sale of retro Plastered T-shirts and shop online for a 30 percent discount on everything in store, from cool tees and hoodies to accessories and one-of-a-kind artwork. It's the best time of the year for Plastered fans.
Beer Degustation Dinner | EAT & DRINK
A new beer culture's been brewing in Shanghai, so get over to The BREW to learn more. This tasting adventure starts with a brewery tour from brewmaster Leon Mickelson and is centered around a six-course dinner; every course within comes paired with one of the hotel's world-class beers. Just be sure to book ahead.
Big & Brassy | WATCH & LISTEN
The JZ Big Band is back and bringing listeners a lively array of instrumentals in 2012. With renowned conductor Mats Holmquist at its helm, the band will entertain fans with hearty horns, big beats and toe-tapping tunes. The band sounds off at 11:30pm.
Shark Attack | WATCH & CHEER
This Sunday,we'll be heading to Yuanshen Stadium to watch the Shanghai Sharks battle it out against the Guangdong Southern Tigers. It'll be the first home game for new import Marcus Landry (brother of NBAer Carl Landry), and Guangdong--four-time defending champions--will be bringing former NBAers James Singleton and Aaron Brooks and their eight Chinese national team players. Even if the Sharks lose it'll be a star-studded show.
Groovy, Lee. If thy graph offend thee, pluck it out (or at least move the punctuation).

"JIA Shanghai has finally reopeneded its doors after the unfortunate fire that broke out at the boutique hotel. " Reopeneded? CW 'editorial' staff at its finest. As a bonus, this is a great example of misplaced punctuation: "The hotel took some time to touch itself up and to celebrate their reopening, they are putting on some amazing deals at the hotel."
