We're pretty sure that this one is going to make you groan. A new movie has been made about expats in Shanghai. For real. Check out the description of the film below.
Filmed entirely on location in Shanghai, China, "Shanghai Calling" is a romantic comedy set in the American 'expat' community of this gorgeous, dynamic city. When ambitious New York attorney Sam is sent to Shanghai on assignment, he immediately stumbles into a legal mess that could end his career. With the help of a beautiful relocation specialist, a well-connected old-timer, a clever journalist, and a street-smart legal assistant, Sam might just save his job, find romance, and learn to appreciate the beauty and wonders of Shanghai.

What do you think of the trailer? Will you watch Shanghai Calling?
I think this one is going to be like a car crash. You don't want to watch it, you know it's wrong, but you just can't take your eyes off it...
Oh why is everyone so cynical about this movie?! Is no one excited about seeing a film that's kinda about our lives on the big screen? Or small flickering screens of our laptops as we watch it on a pirated DVD?
Doesn't look as bad as I'd expected. Doesn't hurt that the clueless laowai isn't a laoWhite, skipping at least that particular cringe. It can't be any worse than that Ken Leung vehicle a couple years back, which was also about a clueless ABC's mishaps in Shanghai.
No matter how stupid, I'll still watch it for Daniel Henney.
@phillipvasels yeah I might have been pushing it there with "Hollywood made", but Janet Yang is a huge Hollywood producer. I'm looking forward to seeing the box office numbers for it.
@nickjaa "Sometimes the language you dont speak, is the one that speaks to you".. cringe
It's true that "Sometimes the language you don't speak, is the one that speaks to you" is pretty dreadful, but as soon as I heard it I vowed to use it in conversation some day, probably after I get back to Australia. "So, how did you enjoy Shanghai so much when you barely spoke any Chinese?" "Well, guys, sometimes the language you *don't* speak... ... ... ... is the one that speaks to you." Everyone: "OMG HE'S SO F*CKING PROFOUND! YOU MUST LEAD US" That's how it goes in my head, anyway.
"Is no one excited about seeing a film that's kinda about our lives on the big screen?" That's precisely why I don't hang around with expats.
cameron from ferris buellers day off and chet from weird science???? love it!!!
why is the word expat in quotes in all of this film's promo material? i guess i am just an "expat" in "china." "oh well."
Awwww, it's cute that narsfweasel thinks people want to hang out with him.

The trailer looks weak. I would be reluctant to say that 'Hollywood has made a new film', which sort of implies the Seven Sisters. You have to look closely at the production credits on the one sheet. The Studios would never have touched this script. It would seem that this company had just enough funds to get Paxton, B lister, for a part, though, he does not carry the film as its lead actor. The surprise is seeing Janet Yang listed as producer. She is terrific and has helmed so many great productions during with her partnerships with Oliver Stone and Wayne Wang. This film is certainly doesn't seem at her level of project and production.
