How many Russians are there in Shanghai?

Roughly 1,500 to 2000 in “Shanghaisk”. The number doesn’t include the people from the Soviet Union’s former satellite states.

What does the Russian Club do?

We organize barbecues, parties, meetings, concerts and readings with Russian celebrities who visit Shanghai.

You guys look like you have a pretty comprehensive website (we can’t read Russian).

Yes, it has daily updates about Russian and expat life in Shanghai and we’re continually improving it. We’re planning to make it fully “user powered” and, in short, create something like a Russian City Weekend! Haha, another competitor! We also have a web forum, that celebrated its 11th anniversary last month!

Do you guys explore your Russian heritage in Shanghai?

Of course! We have an archive of ‘30s Russian newspapers on our website. Also, we collect books, articles, poems and novels by authors who used to live in Shanghai, and we’ve published or participated in publishing a few books about Russian heritage in Shanghai.

Who can join the club?

Anyone who can drink a bucket of vodka in two minutes. Or, if you are interested in Russian culture or have a Russian friend, you are also welcome.
