Stuck in town over Chinese New Year? Fear not. There is plenty of stuff going on around town to keep you occupied. The editors at City Weekend compiled this big badass list of things to do over the next ten days. Got some ideas yourself? Leave your suggestions in the comments below.

EXPLODE

Our number one suggestion? Buy fireworks, lots of them. Set them off at all hours of the day. Don’t hurt yourself, read up on how to do it safely.

NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTIES (JAN. 21)

Drink free baijiu at Bikes & Friends as they celebrate the Chinese New Year on Jan. 21 and 22.

Wear red and go watch the fireworks illuminate Shanghai’s Skyline at Bar Rouge’s CNY celebration on Jan 22. Use the password “dragon” for free entry.

Get an hour of free shooters (midnight-1am) at Mural’s CNY Eve Party. Live music and free entry for anyone born in a year of the dragon (1964, 1976, 1988). Or RMB50 at the door.

They are bit sketchy on details, but apparently Shiva Lounge is throwing a party that night.

Head to Lune for their '60s Mod Rock Party. According to the event listing, it’s free, free, free…

If the '80s are more your thing, head on over to Dada for their MoonWalker 80's Night and ring in the Chinese New Year.

Celebrate 1Love Year of The Dragon at the Apartment’s typically trendy CNY bash.

Head to The Shelter on CNYE and see Sweatshop’s DJ Siesta kick off a beastly year with a three-hour marathon set featuring the best drum ’n bass in town. RMB30 cover charge.

Celebrate the year of the dragon at Geisha. Party the night away with two floors of dancing with DJ Sonic keeping things lively. There will be door giveaways and a big open terrace to watch the fireworks display.

DRINK

The Apartment will be open every day throughout Chinese New Year and will still be offering their standard happy hour deal from 2pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday.

Kaiba is also keeping its promise to be open all year round and will be open every day over the week-long holiday.

The Chalet keeps its doors open over the break. Head to the tiny bar, sit in front of the fireplace and drink until your face turns red.

What's open 24 hours and available on every corner? Lawsons, Kedi, alldays, Family Mart, C-Store - need we say more?

Shanghai Studio is ringing in the new year with two-for-one drinks until Feb. 7. Stop by any weekday to make friends and enjoy cheap cocktails.

Shanghai’s favorite pub crawl will still be kicking it next week. Head along on Thursday or Saturday as the bus rolls around for another raging party.

Australia Day is on January 26 so there will be a bunch of drink deals going on around town. Head to The Kakadu, Not Me, The Shed or Sasha’s for an Aussie piss up.

EAT

Give your ayi or your closest Chinese friend a basket of The Pantry's best this CNY. Their dessert basket is stuffed full of cookies, cupcakes, brownies and granola bars; the breakfast basket includes bagels, cream cheese, granola, jam and breakfast sandwiches. RMB200.

Get a first taste of Caliburger. After all the hype, this place is finally open and ready for action on January 26th. The early buzz is good.

Head to Jean Georges for a Chinese New Year feast. Executive Chef Lam Ming Kin has created a six course feast highlighting Chinese New Year inspired dishes, prepared with Jean Georges' signature elegance and flair. RMB 888 per person, inclusive of one Shanghai Cosmopolitan cocktail. Available from Jan. 20 to 25.

Morton’s will still be open so head on over to Pudong for the best happy hour in town. Pay RMB38 for martinis (normally RMB88-108) and indulge in unlimited steak sliders.

Save some money and get a buy-one-get-one-free lunch or dinner at Tables’ all-you-can-eat buffet at the Portman-Ritz Carlton (normally RMB238 for lunch and RMB298 for dinner plus 15 percent surcharge per person).

Stock up on macaroons over at Maison Du Macaroon and gorge over the holiday.

For a limited time only, New Heights is offering a special Chinese New Year afternoon tea featuring traditional Chinese ingredients such as green tea and black sesame. The price is RMB128 per person (plus 10 percent surcharge), which includes coffee or tea. Available daily from 2:00pm to 5:00pm,

Chinese New Year will be a great time to try out Mr. and Mrs. Bund if you’re on a budget. They do a special RMB200 lunch which gets you two courses of truffle heaven. Pay an extra RMB50 for dessert so you can try that famous lemon tart of theirs.

Hotels never close down over the holidays so they are prime eating and drinking hangouts. Try the decadent afternoon teas at Aura, Flair at The Ritz, The Waldorf Astoria and The Puli Hotel & Spa.

Try The COOK’s mega laksa eating challenge, if you can finish it within an hour you get it free and you'll get your name on their wall of fame (RMB188 plus surcharge). Our editor Geoff tried it and failed, for a laugh have a look over here.

WATCH

The NFL doesn’t stop for CNY, so Bubba’s has committed to catering to all its sports fans with coverage of the playoff games at its Gubei and Expo Village locations on Jan 22 and 23. Bubba’s at Cool Docks will be closed for the holiday.

JZ club provides Eight Jazzy Reasons to Celebrate the Dragon Year with a week-long celebration featuring some of the best jazz musicians around.

STAYCATION

Looking for a luxurious staycation? Head to the Puli and stay between the 20th of January to the 6th of February and you'll get a couple of extra bonuses. You'll receive a bottle of red wine upon arrival and a 60-minute aroma massage for two people during the stay. This offer also includes breakfast, soft drink mini-bar, internet access, and access to health club facilities. Rates start from RMB1,888 per room per night.

The newly opened Man Ho at the Marriott Hotel City Centre is offering a great deal for the Chinese New Year. Book a private dining room and you'll get a free stay in a deluxe room including breakfast for two. Check out their deals here.

Hide away in the Ritz-Carlton Pudong over Chinese New Year. During the break they are offering a “Chinese New Year Celebration Stay Package.” Tack on an extra RMB200 to their best available rate and they’ll shower you with a bunch of hotel perks. Get all the details here.

DO

Bored? Well you can catch up on your City Weekend reading as all our issues are now available online.

Jump onto one of our favorite local fashion websites, Hee-J.com and explore your inner fashionista.

Restock your wardrobe. From Jan. 21-29 Dutch Items Shanghai (D.I.S) will hold a clearance sale only at www.disshanghai.com with discounts of up to 70% off selected items from their previous collections of European clothing and accessories.

Head to Pink Seven and play board games all day long. RMB20 per person gets you unlimited board game time plus one free drink or ice cream. Day Day Holiday has cheap hangout lounges (with Wiis and more board games) for groups as well (but it's closed Jan. 22-24). If you don’t want to leave the house, read our cover story about how to play Chinese games. Our top pick? Grab a drinking buddy and learn how to play Liar’s Dice.

Be badass and ride your bike down Nanjing Xi Lu in the middle of the night.

Go to Sega World, the giant arcade in the bottom of Metro City. Or try out the late-night arcade on the corner of Julu Lu and Ruijin Lu (right next door to Tentekomai), we hear it's a new favorite late-night hangout for Shanghai chefs.

Get your song on at Haoledi Karaoke. It’s less than RMB50 per hour during the week.

Pay a visit to the Avocado Lady, jump in the kitchen and get creative. If you need inspiration, check out some of our step-by-step recipes from some of Shanghai’s best chefs. Try the roasted crown rack of lamb, the brussel sprouts gratin and the special spiced chocolate mousse.

Aiyah! I'll start by complementing you on finally making through an entire list without misspelling 'badass' - but it's only fair to tell you that "Maison Du Macaroon" is in fact Maison du Macaron, and that although cognate in their etymology a macaroon is NOT a macaron. Here's an educational citation: http://www.chow.com/food-news/55519/whats-the-difference-between-a-macaroon-and-a-macaron/

How's about... :-) Pretend to visit old Chinese family, and hint that one is still single? thus play the "who got the most HongPao" game?

More bad ass than the bike ride (if you're not an exchange student): ride your car at night on Nanjing Xi Lu, revving it to the redline in second or third gear. If it is late enough, say 3 am, then you can stop in the middle of the road because who cares, anyway? and start with the fireworks ;)
