This weekend was my husband’s 40th birthday. I am proud to say that I threw a successful family indoor go-karting party for him and his twin brother. “The Toscani Grand Prix,” we called it. 30 adults, 2 teenagers and 10 toddlers were in attendance.

The event, which was held from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, was fun for both adults and kids alike. We reserved the whole race track at Disc Kart Indoor Karting for two hours, had a private room overlooking the track and catered food from Da Marco. I brought Liam and Clara’s play mat and a box of toys. The play mat was situated in front of the huge floor to ceiling window so the kids could see their mommies and daddies race. Although the place was cleaner than expected, my ayi helped me to sanitize the room prior to the arrival of our guests.

The little ones enjoyed watching their parents zooming around the track and all begged to “drive car, drive car”. The adults found their competitive spirits come alive as we progressed through the qualifying races, semi-finals and finals. The older kids also tried their hands at racing. Everyone was high on adrenaline. After two hours of racing, we had an awards ceremony during which we handed out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies and ate birthday cake.

For those thinking of planning an original family party, go-karting is a great way to go. Especially families with older kids, hitting the track might also be an amusing way to spend a weekend afternoon together.
