Living in Shanghai provides a reasonably international environment. Nothing like the true international environment of real cities such as London or New York, but a bit of a mix nonetheless. This means you can overhear and over-read plenty of strange and silly things every day – people desperately trying to appear unintentionally kooky, but instead sounding actually stupid, for example gems such as “I am so wifi-dependent to all venues now its embarassing”
Oh the faux embarrassment of being that plugged into the social and technical world, gush! What’s the betting that he works in “Biz Dev”?
Humblebrag-annoyance catharsis aside, we also overheard a conversation about USA milk potentially coming to Shanghai, in longlife form. Milk might be a concern in China, due to the scare stories. In our house we have always used Guangming Ubest (or the normal blue one) – so if you’re wondering what milk is safe in Shanghai then your local Family Mart has the answer.
What else is there to look out for this month?
Dads:
City Weekend is selling F1 tickets – read about the best Shanghai F1 seats there.
Top Gear’s new series is on iPlayer – episode 2 features China, but start with this great programme on episode 1 (available for another few weeks only – to get a UK proxy see here)
Kids:
Last week I mentioned the excellent Jitterbugs.
We’ve also finally contacted (but not visited yet) another offering of toddler fun, Singing Speckled Frogs – their schedule:
Monday 10:00 at Ambassy Court on Huaihai road.
Tuesday 10:00 at Casa Lakeville Clubhouse near Xintiandi.
Thursday 10:00 at One Wellness in Jing'an.
Good indoors things for kids to do in this on-going vile weather – Spring soon!
