How Many Diapers do I Need to Pack? First time traveling with a baby

My husband and I used to laugh at the crazy packing adventures we'd have right before a trip. We would wait as late as possible to start packing and prided ourselves for being efficient packers who could pack for a trip in half an hour. We never understood those people who took days to pack. But now, we have become those people.

I sit here on Friday night stressing that I haven't started packing yet for our first trip back home to Hawaii on Tuesday. Yup, I've got 3 days before we leave and I've already made countless lists of what to pack. The reason is because we're taking our 4 month old on his first airplane trip ever and I'm a bit freaked out. Never mind the baby jet lag that I can't even imagine dealing with, I'm freaked that we'll be gone for almost a month and I have no idea what to pack for him. I'm stuck on what is he going to need for the airplane. How many diapers should I pack? What if I estimate poorly and he runs out of clean diapers, then I'm screwed! Aaak!!!! And now I'm sitting here typing this blog when I should be packing. It's a brutal endless cycle.

Help out there, all you experienced traveling moms, how do you cope?!?!

Just an update on our trip. I finally got everything packed and made it over in one piece. The flight turned out better than we expected and the bassinet was great use on the way from Shanghai to Tokyo. But from Tokyo to Hawaii we got this duffle bag looking thing that just went on the floor and Tanner was supposed to be zipped up inside. He didn't like that very much. But we made it and with very little crying - thanks Tanner!! Jet lag was ok, took him about 3 days to get over but since we've been in the sunshine and clean air it seems like Tanner doesn't want to nap anymore. He's constantly looking around and active. He's discovered his feet here and his voice. I keep telling my husband that he's much happier here and when he's talking he's asking us if we can just move here permanently. haha. Can't believe that we've already been here 2 weeks and only have 2 more weeks before we have to come back to Shanghai.... I don't know if I can or not......

Please come back, Kathy! We still need to chronicle your mommyhood in Shanghai. I wonder if there are any good, kid-friendly short trips from Shanghai? That way, little ones can be saved from jet-lag. Any ideas?
