"We want to show the world that gay people are no different from straight people" says Jiangtao Gu, a Chinese student who's working on his LGBT photography project.
Gu, a Shanghai native who attends a university in the United States, is looking for LGBT people in Shanghai to participate in his art project which photographs faces of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Each photo will tell a story of the person in the photo. "He/she might have their own interests, passions, fears or anything," says Gu, "but we want to explore if that's any different from straight people."
In the meantime, the National Museum in Poland's capital city of Warsaw has just opened an “Ars Homo Erotica” exhibition recently, featuring from "Greek love" on ancient Greek vases to today's LGBT art commissioned to Central-Eastern European artists for the exhibition. However, although "queer art" functions in the expression of LGBT rights and freedom, whether art be given a label of "gay art" as such, the topic remains a debate.
If you would like to participate in Gu's project, or to help Gu brainstorm the organization of the exhibition, the young Mr Gu can be reached on gujiangtao@gmail.com.
