If you happen to be in Beijing this week, try not to miss out China's first gay beauty contest. Mr. Gay China will be held at Lan Club in Beijing on 15 January to select the first Mr. Gay China to represent the country in Oslo next month as the nation's Mr. Gay World ambassador.
Although eight candidates have been selected from applicants to compete to be the face of China, the number of applications is undisclosed. According to Fridae, Ryan Dutcher, organizer of the Beijing event tried to convince many qualified candidates to take part in the event, but many refused to be in the spotlight, due to the openness of their sexuality.
The organizers also say that they will not invite mainstream Chinese media to the pageant and will only reach out to foreign media and local bloggers.
All of the eight candidates are from northern China. Where are the southern men?
We are glad to see these brave young men of China showing their beauty; however, the question is, will the face representing the country internationally be accepted by the people of his own, and will the people even know about it?
