Oh, why oh why is there no Candy bar in Shanghai? In true fashion, our lala bar scene is back to being a proper mess after a brief period of stability. Woe is me.
I claimed a few months ago we had options. This goes to show that you should never listen to anything I say. Club Love, which is currently home to a small crowd of younger nomadic bar-hopping lesbians, is a disaster - I visited last weekend to find a few underage baby dykes playing dice in a barely visible corner of the shockingly loud mega club. They are adorable, but not adorable enough to warrant stepping foot in Club Love ever again.
First on the Bund, which I naively thought might last because of its great location, has moved again. In case you're up for a hunt, you can find it at 长寿路401号三楼亚新广场双行道酒吧。
This leaves us with Red Station on Saturday nights, which frankly isn't going to happen unless we have friends in town who want to see what the inside of a Chinese lala bar is like, and then it's fun for a drink or 2.
Thank the gay heavens for Shanghai Studio, which still hosts their "Girls Rule the Studio" on the last Saturday of every month. It's no Candy Bar, but it will have to do for now.
