Join this friendly, open group for a discussion about Country Driving: A Journey Through China from Farm to Factory by Peter Hessler.
This book came out in March, and is the newest offering by the award-winning and immensely popular China writer Peter Hessler, considered by many to be the best writer on modern China today. Hessler spent most of ‘00s driving along the Great Wall while living in Beijing; he even kept a second home in the tiny village of Sancha right next to the Great Wall. He insightfully and sensitively documents the massive changes taking place across villages in the north, chatting (and living) intimately with the locals, giving us a window into their lives, their thoughts and their hopes for the future.
Exciting news: This meet-up is at the world’s highest library on the 60th floor. It even has a hidden terrace behind a sliding bookshelf where we can take in the gorgeous view for the first 10 minutes of the meeting - that's when we're waiting for all you stragglers to make it in on time.
