Laugh ’til You Cry Reading My Mom Is a Fob

Blog-to-book isn’t new (see Stuff White People Like), but we still get happy when blogs we love get bound up brightly (it makes them easier to read in the bathroom). My Mom Is a Fob is the brainchild of Teresa and Selena Wu, California-based ABCs. Each page of the book features all-too-real dialogues involving Asian moms submitted by readers of the blog, complete with disastrous grammar and unintentional sexual innuendo.

The book may at first seem like just a compilation of unfortunate gags. These mothers can be just a little too forward (“Girls no pretty when they pass 30. No guy going to marry you when you expire!”) or a tad too blunt (“After seeing your face, I don’t have appetite no more.”) but it’s obvious that these children have come to accept and appreciate their mothers’ traditional ways.

Things like saying “rape music” for rap or declarative warnings like “Do not eat boba. It is causing cancer.” will make you ROFL, but at its heart, this is a book about maternal love and companionship. Even if your parents are lily-white, you’ll quickly share in the authors’ boundless adoration for fobby parents everywhere.

My Mom is a Fob is available on Taobao for ¥102 plus ¥8 shipping.
