Tommy Nohilly: Blood from a Stone
Nohilly’s first play on Broadway stars Ethan Hawke, and now the former marine, waiter, bouncer, bartender and security guard talks about never giving up on writing and how he got to where he is today.
Juan Gabriel Vasquez: On History and Stories
Award-winning Colombian writer Vasquez talks about 2010 novel The Informers and his forthcoming novel The Secret History of Costaguana, about a Colombian-born writer named José Altamirano.
Christos Tsiolkas: The Slap
This "way we live now" novel, which follows what unfolds after a child is slapped at a barbecue, won its author a Commonwealth Prize. Set in a standard Melbourne suburb, Tsiolkas's book peels back layers to reveal the racial tensions and conflicting values that make up an on-the-surface happy, multicultural society.

Tess Johnston and her esteemed co-authors get together to discuss their work.
Simon Kuper with Brook Larmer
Kuper and Larmer talk about Sports as a Globalizing and Tribalizing Force. Kuper is the author of Football Against the Enemy and Larmer recently published Operation Yao Ming. The pair discuss the way sports in the 21st century are both globalizing and tribalizing, both in China and throughout the world.
Marjorie Liu: Out of the Ordinary
New York Times best-selling author and Marvel contributor Liu discusses her fantasy novels Tiger Eye and her comics series based on the X-Men and Wolverine, X-23 and Dark Wolverine. The Financial Times' Peter Aspden moderates.
Hong Ying and Adam Williams
This wife and husband pair discuss what happens when Chinese writers cover Western topics. Hong Ying on the Bloomsbury Group and vice versa and the problems that come along with it - translation problems, self-censorship and unclear understanding.
The Great Annual FT Debate
A favorite of the festival. For this year's SILF, FT writers Peter Aspden, Jan Dalley, Lucy Kellaway and Simon Kuper discuss whether or not the world is turning into one giant shopping mall or if a shared culture (though which one?) can promote an understanding of multiculturalism. Financial Time's Asia editor, David Pilling, moderates.
Julia Leigh: Crafting the Novel
The Disquiet and Hunter author discusses the role that atmosphere, character, inspiration and more play in how a novel is put together.

Peter Hessler: From River Town to Country Driving
Peter Hessler, of River Town, Oracle Bones and Country Driving fame discusses his travels through China and leaving the Middle Kingdom. In conversation with American Public Media's Rob Schmitz.
