Fusion | Fountain

Cold beer, sunshine and fish and chips is our idea of heaven, and Fountain in Xintiandi delivers all three. They pull out all the stops with their authentic rendition of fish and chips (¥140). Our large portion came wrapped in newspaper and accompanied by malt vinegar, just like how old-time fish and chips shops do it. The delicious, flaky white fish is tender inside a thick beer batter layer while the chips are cooked extra crispy, English-style.

Fusion | Mesa & Manifesto

At only ¥82, Mesa has affordable fish and chips. They’re delicious too. With their light and crispy Cooper's beer batter, they’re some of the best we’ve had outside of a “real” British fish and chip shop. The chips are fluffy and well cooked. Portions are smaller than at the other restaurants, but if you’re hungry, just grab two orders. Be sure to go during brunch to get in on the fish and chips.

Bars | Bulldog Shanghai

If you’re after a true British pub experience, dive into the Bulldog’s fish and chips (¥108). You can find us watching football on the TV while munching on an order. The firm, flaky cod has a fishier taste than the others, but is ideal for those who like a bit more flavor. The fish is served with chunky chips, a salad and a big dollop of tartare sauce (with HP and Heinz Ketchup also available).
