Changes and Debuts: two venues change their image while a new wine bar and restaurants appears on Taikang

Some more change-ups on the scene to report. The JW Marriott California Grill has revamped their entire menu, going with a "red" theme--red meat, red lobster, red wine. Says chef Danio Galli, "Our menu before was no in line with what my understanding of a grill is." It's all about a restaurant's identity, he says. "The food has to be in line with the concept you project." Hence the connection between red (think succulent juicy steaks) and the grill.

Another major overhaul was the restaurant formerly known as Parrot, now Lapis Roma. We'll see if the new incarnation can bring more traffic through the door, though at last pass the patron count still looked fairly low.

Also, a trip to Taikang Lu reveals a new wine venue, tai Wine. With tai Restaurant right next door and a music / CD store in back, this little spot has a bit of everything and gets extra points for its simple, cozy and intimate design, perfect for a quiet glass of wine on a romantic evening.
