New Xinjiang Restaurant Makes Some Major Investments in Decor

Crystyl Mo recently tipped me onto a new Xinjiang restaurant, 伊兰盛鼎 or Yi Lan Sheng Ding on Ruijin Nan Lu. Apparently the interior, which cost upwards of 20 million RMB, is designed to resemble a golden temple. The cuisine features Muslim food but also includes Shanghai and Canton dishes as well, but no pork. One wonders how they'll manage either of the latter styles without such a staple ingredient:

"I don't eat meat." "Pork is okay though right?" "No, that's meat." "But it's only a little bit, and there are vegetables too."

With such an austere setting, let's hope this restaurant hasn't committed the common sin of focusing too much on decor to the detriment of the food.
