Christmas is approaching and it’s time to celebrate. If Champagnes are made for kicking off a delightful meal, sweet wines are perfect for rounding up a holiday feast. Here are my recommendations.

The Recommendations

First, try Taylor’s LBV Port 2003 from ASC Fine Wines (¥336, Tel: 6445- 3214). This renowned dessert wine from Portugal is a fortified red with rich plum and blackberry flavors. The berry flavors means that it goes well with richer foods, like Christmas puddings and roasts. Though it’s always better to consume it fresh, the bottle keeps for at least two weeks.

For whites, Château Petit Verdines 2005 from Aussino (¥251, Tel: 5118-1295) is a sweet, golden wine from Sauternes in Bordeaux. The grapes in these wines are affected by “noble” rot, and as a result, the rich flavors become concentrated. This wine exhibits delicious hints of nectar and honey.

Last but not least, try Disznoko Tokaji Late Harvest Furmint 2004 from Globus Wines (¥298, Tel: 5466-0723). This Hungarian wine, once a favorite of the French royalty, is less sweet than our first two choices for those who prefer lighter wines.
