The World Cup is almost upon us, and speaking of a perfect “match”, try taking in the games with a glass of South African red in hand. But football is not the only happening thing in South Africa.
Wine has been made in Constantia, near Cape Town, since the 1600s. In the past 15 years, the quality of the wines from the region has been going up with tons of foreign investment pouring in.
Blessed with lots of sunshine and moderating influences from the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, South Africa is an ideal place to produce wine. Have some Pinotage, South African’s own red wine, and you’ll see why. It’s full bodied, juicy and often exhibits exotic berry fruit aromas and even hints of coffee. Its international varietal reds and whites are delicious and reasonably priced as well.
