If you've ever done the trek out to the F1 racetrack, you know it's a pretty long (and expensive) haul. Luckily, construction began mid-December on a segment of Metro Line 11 which will link the Jiading District and F1 racetrack in the northwest all the way to Nanhui District in the southeast, a total of 67km. The route will pass through Changning, Xuhui and Pudong as well and will have 13 stations. The first phase of the project, connecting Chengbei Lu in Jiading to Jiangsu Lu in Changning, will be open to commuters by the end of next year, ready to whisk race car enthusiasts out to the site in about 40 minutes. Completion of the entire line is set for 2012.
