Not sure who to cheer for in this year's football fiesta? Check out our list of teams to watch.
Starting June 11, the planet goes nuts over the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as 32 national teams converge on South Africa to battle it out for football supremacy. The games will start anywhere between 6:30pm and 2:30am here, but in an international city like Shanghai, the problem won’t be how many of the games will be televised at sports bars but rather which bars you and your national brethren) will want to watch the matches in.
If you’re from the British Isles, head to Bulldog Pub, an English hangout in the former French Concession, O’Malley’s Irish Pub or the Pudong-side Irishman’s Pub. O’Malley’s, in particular, is a family-friendly favorite with a big screen and attentive waitstaff.
Popular Aussie hangout The Camel will also have every World Cup game broadcast, and they’re expecting around 300 people to show up per game. “Camel Bar will be one of the top bars in town to watch the games,” promises Brendan Brophy, a managing partner at both The Camel and the Irishman’s Pub. “The biggest games in Shanghai are generally when England, France or Holland are playing. We tend to get very large groups of fans in for those matches.”
A more eclectic international mix will show up at consummate sports bar Big Bamboo’s three locations in Hongqiao, Jing’an and Jinqiao and at the newly reopened Windows Scoreboard, traditionally a hot sports-watching spot for those on a budget and students from North America, Spain, Italy and France.
And, of course, the Expo, with the many international communities represented there, will be one of the best places to take in the festivities. South Africa, this year’s World Cup host nation, will be leading the charge by airing most matches on 3D screens inside its pavilion. Games not aired live will be re-broadcast the following day.
If you’d rather watch outside on a big screen, you have a couple of options. The heavily football-themed Brazil Pavilion (Zone C) will be showing all of its national team’s matches, and the Belgium / European Union joint pavilion (Zone C) will be broadcasting football games featuring European nations. It’s sure to be a favorite among Expo-goers given the pavilion’s location in Europe Square, a huge open space bordered by several national pavilions from that continent.
Park Tavern has two huge screens outside and a covered patio. It's where me and my mates are heading over to watch the games...
Urban 18 has a big party on this Friday for the world cup as well, they have a bunch of screens in there I think.
Bugger the pretentious expensive venues. The football is all about having a drink with your friends and finding a venue that is relaxed chilled and inexpensive! 20 yuan drinks! OZNZ is where all my crew are heading too. This bar is the local for those that really want good times with good friends that won't take advantage of your wallet for something you love! Well done OZNZ!
Malone`s will be FREE ENTRY for every game as some bars are charging Rmb100 entry which we will not. We have buckets of beers for Rmb100, A large large screen on every floor plus several large wide screen tvs around the bar too. Thumb Plaza Malone`s has a large patio that can seat nearly one hundred with outside large screen and sound too
Mrs Narsfs just bought a new TV for the new house, we've just finished decorating so the dream has been realised: I'm watching the World Cup in my own home! Mua ha ha ha!

The first England game is at 2.30am on this Sunday, which is dashed inconsiderate...
