It's been nearly eight months since Nanjing psychobilly-punks Angry Jerks have played Shanghai, but their silence ends on Saturday when the pompadour sporting, Tiger Army-loving quintet storms the Yuyintang stage.

Rumored to have broken up and shuffled their line-up around, Angry Jerks have reformed just in time for a late summer "home-and-home" with local rap-rockers The (Crazy) Mushrooms (making their second appearance in The Beat this week).

Originally a hardcore outfit, featuring members of Demerit and Overdose, Angry Jerks formed in 2000 and were an immediate hit on the punk rock circuit. Around 2007, the Jerks traded in their brightly-dyed locks and torn jeans for the quiffs and upright bass, becoming China's only psychobilly band and a fan favorite around the country.

In 2008, Angry Jerks made a number of trips to Shanghai, including headlining the only known rock show at The Shelter and playing a ripping set at the now-defunct Windows Tembo, building up a loyal local fanbase, turning every crowd onto their fist-pumping punk anthems.

Catch the Angry Jerks Saturday, August 22nd at Yuyintang; support provided by Crazy Mushroom, Second and Double Control Where, tickets RMB 40.

NOTE: Jerks hype-man Zhou Ge is a notorious whiz on the foosball table, so any table-soccer specialists looking for a serious game of foos, prepare to bring it.
