MIDI or Modern Sky . . . The Decision You Don't Have to Make
We're down to the wire, less than two weeks until national holidays and, finally, the air has been cleared concerning the status of Beijing's two major music festivals: MIDI and Modern Sky. Music fans (and bands) were nearly forced to choose between two great events, featuring dozens of bands, but, alas, the choice has already been made for you. Modern Sky will go ahead as planned -- September 30th, October 1st and 2nd -- in Haidan Park, while Midi, still scrapping for permits will attempt to re-schedule their festival the following weekend (10/11&12). While Midi was set to feature a slew of international and domestic (including a couple semi-known Shanghai groups) bands, Modern Sky's bill is entirely Chinese, but there are some seriously kick-ass bands on that line-up, so the results should be stellar. Of note are three local bands: Top Floor Circus, Cold Fairyland and 33 Island; and several DJs: Ozone, R3, Ben Huang and Didjerilium; who we be playing Modern Sky, in additions to the usual suspects from Beijing: Queen Sea Big Shark, Joyside, Carsick Cars, Snapline, Casino Demon, Scoff, Super VC, New Pants, Underground Baby, etc. So, if you're still thinking about heading north for the holidays there will be plenty of music and tons of super party fun time.
