So by now everyone should know that live music in China has its cycles. September through (mid)December, and March through June are full of tons of rad shows, the rest of the year is rather brutal and depressing. Yuyintang, which has basically become Shanghai's only real (and consistent) livehouse has just announced its November line-up, and rock fans are in for a seriously awesome month. Even before the eleventh month commences, YYT is starting things off proper with S.T.D. Live and Undead, featuring the SUBS (BJ) and Boys Climbing Ropes. The following Saturday, 11/7, two Beijing experimental, electronic indie bands, 2 Oranges and 5 Minutes, will grace the stage of our favorite Tianshan Park dive. On November 15th, Shanghai's own Top Floor Circus will be joined by Beijing experimental folk outfit Xiao He for a night that will most likely be filled with humor that is way beyond any ex-pats level of comprehension, but, nonetheless, still entertaining. The following weekend features two great shows that should not be missed. On Friday, November 21st, Beijing's legendary Casino Demon will be making their first trip to Shanghai since September 2007. 'Du Gui' will be joined by another Beijing staple Steely Heart in what will definitely be a super-duper kick-ass show (note to readers: I'm a fan of both of these bands). Two days later, on Sunday, November 23rd, Arrows Made of Desire will bring their eclectic indie tunes to Shanghai, joined by Finland's Moses Hazy. Finally, on Friday November 28th, Beijing's The Molds (featuring Joyside's Xiao Hong on guitar) will bring their Cramps-meets-Jesus&Mary Chain inspired tunes to Shanghai for the very first time. I hear there's a really rad band opening for them, but due to contractual obligations and ethical journalistic practices, I'm unable to announce them at this time. I will however scour to find some original sounds from The Molds to post on CW, or at least link to. This is, without a doubt, an amazingly solid schedule of events, offering live music fans enough entertainment to last them through the bitter colds of late December and January, when we all begin to complain about how crappy the "scene" is.
