As has been the case over the last several years, Shanghai’s rock scene tends to heat up right around the same time that the temperature begins to drop.

With just under two months to go before everyone skips town for Christmas, New Year and semester break, a quartet of local bands are releasing a EPs, LPs and split CDs in the next two weeks.

Here’s a look at who’s releasing what, when . . .

Androsace S/T November 4th

Hard-gigging, minority grunge outfit Androsace release their debut EP with a set at Yuyinyang’s the first ever Love Mr. Zhang Music Festival.

The band will be giving away free copies of their limited homemade disc at this show, that also features sets by Cold Fairyland and Dragon Pizza.

Friend or Foe My Claw is Never Limp November 12th

Current City Weekend The Beat columnist and co. release debut album at YYT. Where have I heard that before?

Giving birth to the genre of “boner rock,” Friend or Foe unveil their 10-track effort with support from the flaccid Rainbow Danger Club and the semi-erect Death to Giants.

Boys Climbing Ropes / X is Y Summer and Winter Warfare November 16th

Indie rock heavyweight’s BCR team up with somber trio X is Y for this split EP, released via the Pause: Music label.

In the works since early 2011, this split is a prelude to a pair of to-be-released long players from both bands, slated for 2012.

Speaking of Boys Climbing Ropes and X is Y, check them out playing the Velvet Underground classic "Rock and Roll," from last week's Halloween Rock Tribute show.
