Where to Buy Camellia Oil in Shanghai

Many readers wrote me asking where they can buy this antioxidant-rich oil which I wrote about in my salad dressing column.

I called around town and found a few guaranteed sources. Beyond this list, I have noticed the oil being sold in many local supermarkets, so I encourage people to look for it anywhere they regularly shop:

City Shop regularly carries Hai Shi Camellia Oil 海狮山茶籽油. The 500ml bottle is ¥42.5. However, the branch on Hongmei Lu told me camellia oil is currently out of stock.

Carrefour is currently promoting camellia oil. The brand they carry is Jin Shiben Xiangshan 金世本香山茶油. The branch in Gubei confirms the oil is available there (Article No. 407028); 750ml is ¥48.

Hui Jin Supermarket 汇金超市, which has 5 branches, including one in Xujiahui in the basement of the Hui Jin Mall, carries many brands of camellia oil in a large display area, including the brands pictured above. This is where I recently bought some oil for cooking. It's easy to compare prices between different brands and they also have some brochures explaining the oil's benefits.

Some branches of Lotus Supermarkets carry camellia oil, and those that do carry it have many brands. I confirmed that the Lotus on Wuzhong Lu has it in stock.

Hope this is helpful!
