China Desperately Lacking Enough KFC’s and Pizza Huts
Yum! is on a one-company-mission to obese-ify the whole nation of China

China Retail News reports that Yum! plans to open 425 more restaurants this year, and 20,000 more in the long-term.

The article, released on May 9, 2008 reads:

According to foreign media sources, Yum!, the owner of KFC and Pizza Hut, is planning its expansion in China, and the group plans to open 425 new chain restaurants in China in 2008 and China is expected to become its largest profit source in the coming ten years.
Yum! plans to launch breakfast services in China this year. These services have been carried out in half of KFC restaurants. In addition, the group will also test 24-hour KFC restaurants and expand distribution services.
David Novak, president of Yum! Restaurants Group, says that his goal is to open more than 20,000 restaurants in China. In 2007, the profit of Yum! Restaurants China was US$375 million, which increased by 30% and contributed more than a quarter of the total profit of the company. Novak predicts that by 2017, the contribution of the China's market will take 40% of the company's total profit, exceeding the U.S. market's 30%.

Doesn't this article just make you crave some spicy, breaded, deep-fried chicken goodness? I want a fried chicken hanbaobao pronto! Or wait, maybe I just want these new cheesy French fries which the woman on the KFC China homepage is so profoundly enjoying here.

I'd love to be snooty about KFC but I just can't resist the spicy burgers and that Beijing wrap.

The day I give in to temptation and put their delivery number in my hand machine is the same day I start wearing elasticated jeans.

Has anyone actually tried the cheesy fries yet? The idea certainly appeals to me, but i'm thinking of British chippy style cheesy chips which come with grated cheese on top, not some plasticy looking sauce thing. The KFC version doesn't look so good, or am i missing out?

I'm waiting until they bring out Cheezypeas- that cheese sauce looks like a fondue without the vitamins

I reckon they'd go down pretty well over here. Then they could bring out the whole range: Yuletide Cheezypeas, After-dinner Cheesypeas, and, of course, Squeezy Cheezypeas

You know, the pathetic thing is, that when I went to check out the KFC China website to leave a link in my blog, I got kind of intrigued and my mouth actually started watering looking at the new papaya egg tarts they are now promoting. I think I desperately need to eat those. Today. And if anyone eats those "cheese" fries, I expect a full report.

I'm sure there are better place to get egg tarts, but to my taste the KFC version is fantastic.

Whenever they bring out a new version with red bean paste, little chunks of taro, or any other abomination- it makes me scratch my head.

(They do it a lot too, that's why I'm bald)

The cheese fries I'm still not sure about- I wonder if you can pour the sauce on the burger? Best not to think about it.
