FDA on the way?
A brief story reported by Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 says a senior officer of the United States FDA revealed on July 27, 2008 that the FDA has plans to establish three offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and will send over special agents to each office.
If all goes smoothly, the first team of special agents will arrive in China by the end of September, with their chief mission being to ensure the safety of food and medicine in China. It goes on to say the agents will undertake in-depth supervision of processing factories in the three cities.
Here's hoping they don't test those tea eggs that have been boiling for 3+ weeks at the All Days around the corner from me. Cuz I really like those things, and lord knows they wouldn't get FDA-approval.

killa--you are not alone in your skepticism regarding the FDA folks. During my brief research on the web before I posted this blog, I discovered the FDA has few fans, and a whole buncha vociferous critics, especially regarding its drugs approval policies. Found some quite cutting political cartoons too, through google images.

Sounds like total show. What can these FDA dudes actually accomplish? Like go undercover at slaughterhouses? More tax dollars down the drain.
