Once bustling foodie street still has the goods
This once proud street food mecca is now relegated to just a few stalls, almost all crowded together at 246 Tianping Lu—but they are good ones! You can still get all the most excellent street snacks you need—from sesame shaobing (sweet and salty) to fried dough sticks and also doufu hua (silken tofu), served in sealed plastic cups, like the kind milk tea is served in. See more details about my favorite snacks available at Tianping.
Get there early in the morning—they are only there until around 9:45am. The snack cooks are very friendly, I’ve visited so many times with my camera and every time the vendors smile and laugh—I don’t always win that response when I try to snap people on the street.
After your snacks there, mosey down to 250 Tianping Lu, where there’s a small stand at the entrance to the wet market (and next door to a roast duck vendor—also great). They are tasty if greasy (isn’t that the point though), but you must eat them hot to get the full effect.
If you like to cook, head into the wet market, it’s small but has everything you need from free range eggs to fresh tofu and of course loads of veggies and fruits. This is a super crowded wet market at peak times.
