Behing the Music: Going Bananas with Banana Soundsystem and elnomo
You're back from your (long) summer hiatus. What were you up to all these months? Yes, it's nice to be back. This summer I strung together my “fabulous DJ life Euro Tour” with gigs in Spain, Germany and Denmark.
Now that you're back in Shanghai, what are you doing? Well, aside from studying Chinese five days a week, I'm putting a painting studio together in my apartment and then, of course, there's the blue collar DJ hustle.
If we want to see you, elnomo, behind the decks, where are we most likely to find you? I've just started a collaboration with MoCA Art Lab. I'm there almost every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9:30pm-12:30pm with occasional guest spots from other DJs around town. I'm also playing fairly regularly at The Shelter for their Quality Control nights and other one-offs.
Anywhere else? Mural. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) launching a new monthly called “Tongue ‘n Cheek” which will focus on silly music that you probably heard on the FM dial when you were growing up.
So what happened to the Banana Soundsystem? We're throwing a party at The Shelter on Friday, Nov. 28. The theme is “Hells Bananas Biker Gang,” so we'll play a lot of wacky biker jams (think Steppenwolf's “Born to be Wild") mixed up with the classic Bananas stuff and all sorts of freshly minted house / electro clash, mash and bash alongside standard 80s pop hits, funk and wacky oldies and what have you.
