How well do you know your local bands? We've decided to put you readers to the test to check your knowledge of the local music scene. Read the bios of the four bands below. Three are real, one is fake. See if you can guess which one is fake and leave your answer in the comments below. And a note to the cheaters - we know that you can easily use Google to find the answer, but don't be a party pooper and ruin all the fun!

Their songs are loose, rambling affairs. The mostly spoken word vocals seem to be stream of consciousness. Think of them as Primus if every member were incredibly drunk, forgot their parts and Les Claypool’s had finally got rid of that head cold. One of their songs is called “Osteosarcoma,” which is the eighth most common type of children’s cancer. Apparently their drummer keeps Shanghai’s other drummers in his closet. It is unclear if this is a reference to his sexuality. Also, they are to be the second band in Shanghai with a member named Bill, who, while instrumental in the formation of the band, is now dead.

Jungle Woods 森林木

This six-member band has been playing around Shanghai for two years now. Their tunes span a wide range and include a lot of picky guitar parts with futuristic keyboards. They are big fans of sunglasses. Their song writing motivation is “real tragedy.” Right within this realm is their cover of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” Don’t pretend like you weren’t tearing up when Leo died. You might find yourself getting emotional too when they hit the power chords in the chunkier part of their version.

Shao Lin 少林

This nerdy band has loads of spastic punk energy. Their songs resemble a blow to the head, in that they are short, hard and often leave the listener confused. The three-member band has been playing around town for four months and they have moments that resemble System of a Down, moments that resemble Blink-182 and then moments that don’t resemble anything. Their songs are usually about kicking ass. One song of theirs is called “Smash Kick Face.” Their lead singer has been known to take the stage wearing bad sweaters.

Biu Biu 比优比优

If Sting had a secret daughter in China who grew up surrounded by pop punk, she would sing in this band. But that is not a bad thing, and her voice is quite strong and fits nice with the Police-esque interplay of guitar and drums. They formed a little over a year ago but almost immediately broke up. Recently they decided to give it another go. Their songs are full of catchy melodies and are well composed. The singer is also quite pretty, which never hurts a band’s chances. If they can stay together for more than a few months, look for this band to start making waves.

"Moist" is indeed one of the most horrible words in the English language!

:) So what would be a better word to take over "moist"? "Wet" x3? or Juicy? or...? :)

Ok, since no one else is guessing, I'll give it a try. I'll support you, Hezekiah-hater. I'll guess Jungle Woods since they look like a band who would be around on advertisements and make some noise with all that fashionable hair and their awesome sunglasses. I've never heard of them or Shao Lin. But my money's on Jungle Woods.

There's only three people in Jungle Woods! Contest-bombing from Beijing, oh yeah.
