Austrian DJ and producer Electric Indigo is coming to Shanghai next month for a night at MAO Livehouse. She's been a name on the European techno scene for more than 20 years, from early days releasing hard acid techno on Experimental records, to more recent times producing bass-heavy, more electro-inspired stuff. She was the buyer for the legendary Berlin record shop Hard Wax for many years.

At the same time, she's been heavily involved in supporting other female DJs and artists. In 1998 she created female:pressure, an international database for female DJs, producers and visual artists who work in the fields of electronic music. In keeping with this ethos, for her Shanghai gig she'll be supported by a number of Chinese female VJs and DJs, including DJ Jiongjiong from "Underground Disco Project," who was a regular at (now closed) White Rabbit up in BJ.

Electric Indigo has been running her own record label, indigo:inc recordings, since 2003. She's one of the most respected DJs on the European scene. Even in the states she's something of a legend, and played the main stage of Detroit's Electronic Music Festival a few years ago. If you're into Detroit and Berlin sounds, come see her at work.
