We blame the summer heat on our recent laziness that has stopped us from checking out the few gigs worth seeing that have recently been randomly popping up in Shanghai. This weekend we vow that will change and here are two shows we will be at.

• STD, like many of the cities live music promoters, has been quite lately. Saturday they get back into the groove of things with Super VC, a brit-rock band from Beijing. If you are into Travis or any of their contemporaries then this is a show for you.

• So Shanren don't play on the weekend and have been regulated to playing a sh*t Monday night show at, deep in the Yangpu boondocks, Live Bar. But that is no reason not to get off your lazy ass and see this folk-rock band. Incorporating numerous traditional instruments into their live shows they have become stalwarts of the Chinese festival scene for years and have a strong local following. The show starts at 7:30pm (that usually means around 8:30pm) and tickets are RMB60.
