New Pants Interview
by punknotjunk | Posted on Nov 21 2008 | Shanghai Nightlife 0 Comments | 0 Bookmarked

After all the heat Shanghaiist took for posting a controversial piece last week we understand why they decided not to post this interview done by the same person who wrote the original. But, we aren't so diplomatic...here you go, an interview with New Pants.

Being a long time fan of New Pants, we were shocked by the recent rumors spreading around the internet regarding the band. To set the record straight we got an exclusive (yet short, we never know what to ask) interview with the band. Be sure to catch them this Saturday night at the Zhi Jiang Dream Factory in celebration of the release of their latest album and see what all the talk is about.

Ok, guys, lately there have been some hurtful rumors by stupid people going around.... but we know you are good friends with Regurgitator, and would have toured with them if it had been possibly, right? Any plans to tour together in the future?

A: We are actually really good friends with Regurgitator and recently played with them on the final leg of their China tour, in Beijing. It was great and the show was amazing. Of course we hope for a chance to tour with them, whether in China or abroad.

New Pants seems to be gaining in popularity.......any chance you might soon be breaking into the world of Mando Pop? Maybe a duet with Joey Yung?

A: In China, today, our music still isn’t accepted by mainstream audiences, but we have a great fan base in the relatively small underground scene. Fortunately the scene is expanding. Given the chance we would love to work with Joey Yung.

Your last album was a departure from your old school punk roots, what can we expect on your new album? Maybe a head banging metal tune or two?

A: Our new album is more mature and artistic when compared with our previous albums. The single, “Savage also love” (clip featured in this post) is a tribute to Chinese rock and metal in the 90’s and is completely different from what you will find on the rest of the album.

You guys always tend to bring some crazy antics to your live shows, planning anything for Shanghai? if so can we get a hint?

A: We believe a big part of a concert isn’t just the music but how engage the audience….to find out what crazy antics we are planning for Shanghai you will have to come to the show. So with a final China tour to finish off 2008, what are the bands plans for 2009? When can we look forward to seeing you back in Shanghai?

A: A Remix of the new album. For the time being no concrete plans.

What brand of new pants are you wearing?

A: there is no specific brand, just needs to be long and skinny.
