Nightlife News Round-Up: The Empire(s) Strikes Back
Following people's movements around Shanghai's nightlife scene can make anyone dizzy. The newest high profile changes involve (the former) British Bulldog–now Bulldog Shanghai–and the growing Muse empire. Moving over from Mural to Bulldog Shanghai, Carsten Warga seems to have big plans for this Wulumuqi venue, keeping a "similar European pub style, but adding a stage on the second floor which will feature daily live music." They're also renovating the top floor for a possible DJ booth and a perennially coveted veranda space.
I also had a quick chat with the crew at Muse's newly acquired Upstairs at Park 97 / BACI / Lux venue. Although there's been speculation this will just become M3, no worries, you won't see any major name changes or otherwise in the near future. This Fuxing Park group is going to party it up in July before piecemeal closures for renovations during the rest of the summer. Look for them to be fully up and running with a new look (and menu) mid-September.
Speaking of growing empires, if you happen to be on Tongren Lu, stop by Judy's new Studio 78's soft opening on July 11. Also in Jing'an, look for a new bar, El Toro, on Nanyang Lu.
On a more established note, club kids start planning now as Hed Kandi plans another bash at Bar Rouge at the end of the month and Gary Wang brings the The DMC China Championships back to Shanghai on July 18. Check out the competition at Zhijiang Dream Factory and then the after party at, of course, The Shelter.
Finally, if you've been hearing rumblings about Mint, Barbarossa and LAN Club you're on the right track, so keep checking back here for more news on those fronts.

Oh goodie, LAN is coming. The Beijing flavor is crap. That last thing Shanghai needs is another pretentious club with arrogant management. I thought the days of people investing stupid amounts of money in tired, unoriginal concepts in this ridiculously over-saturated market were over. Guess not.

LAN is now 2 months late in opening, but is nearly finished. M1NT is now set for October (back from the original August, then Sept dates). Both places will be tailored to those with loads of money and pretentious egos. Normal people steer clear.
This July 4th I hear you can get free entry before 11.00 and a free Bud at Attica. Guess Budweiser is their sponsor!

whats the news about LAN then and miny mint mint ?
