Although urban slang has other uses for the word "danana," once inside the confines of Bell Bar, this (very) cozy Taikang Lu cocktail hideaway's barman Jimmy has taken the term in a new direction. Although not one of the names on the established cocktail circuit, Jimmy explains that more than anything, he enjoys experimenting and the drinks–like the Danana (RMB68)–that he gets out of it.

Not a staple on the drink menu yet, the Danana is made on request and resembles an adult smoothie more than a classic cocktail. We were a bit concerned that, like many banana-based drinks that have come before it, the sugary fruit would overpower the mix. But the Danana hit the right balance of flavors, consisting of mainly 42 Below Vodka, Banana liquor, lemon juice and, of course, banana purée, offering up a smooth and not overly sweet rendition of our daily fruit serving–or so we’d like to believe.
