Sham 69 in Shanghai
by punknotjunk | Posted on Apr 13 2009 | Shanghai Nightlife 0 Comments | 0 Bookmarked

So you consider yourself a punk fan? Like to drop names like the Ramones and Sex Pistols to prove your credibality, but stand dumbfounded at the mention of bands like Sham 69. Posers, rejoice. In May there is a chance at redemption, an opportunity at saving yourself from being just another pop-punk listening buffoon.
In the early days punk was a broad term used to define anything that didn't fit into the norms of the music industry including bands as musically diverse as Television, Wire and the Clash. Sham 69 was one of the first bands to latch on to the sound popularized by the Sex Pistols, helping to define the term 'punk' as we know it today. Sure, the recent incarnation only includes one of the original members (and is kind of a joke), but it is still important to pay respect to a band as influential as Sham 69.
They will be playing May 17th at Yuyintang.
